The shelter for people with intellectual disease in Brescia, a domestic and international centre of excellence for the treatment of this kind of diseases, has been designed and carried out with an eye towards “sustainable construction”. This project perfectly merges the architectural design with engineering technology, seeking a residential-health comfort that improves the quality of buildings intended for therapeutic-rehabilitative and assistance activities, by using a structure/envelopment SE building technology and by optimizing energy. The pursuit of an energy-saving oriented building (within the structural and regulatory regulations) considered the pillars of green construction.
In order to ensure a spontaneous behaviour, as passive as possible, it has been considered: orientation, free solar gains, envelope performance, solar protection, natural ventilation, the most effective plant technologies and the usage of renewable sources.
